David Carmichael
Stone Sculpture
The moment David first touched chisel to stone he experienced the connection as instantaneous and profound. It was one of those luminous moments that is most often associated with love, or a spiritual awakening or even divine madness. Reason and ego are bypassed and a journey begins. That initial connection constantly evolves and deepens as an interplay between the forms and energies inherent in the stone and David’s own internal process of discovery and the ineffable mysteries of life that bind them. The resulting creation, the sculpture, has a depth and spirit of its own. David works the stone to give shape to his thoughts while the stone, in turn, inspires his thoughts and guides his hand and eye.
